rushing and pledging next year

Hi everyone,
I know a lot of you are in sororities at your various colleges, so I just wanted to ask y'all a quick question. I'm on the varsity swim team at my school, and now that I'm settled with school, my team, and everything, I was really thinking about joining a sorority next year. It's one of these things that, if I don't do, I KNOW I will regret down the road in life. Do you think it's possible to handle a two-a-day practices and the various sorority events? My weekends are almost always free, and I'm okay with late nights...

Thanks!!

P.S. What other tips do y'all have for the rushing process??

  1. I am a Kappa Delta alum and although I wasn't an athlete in college, a few of my sorority sisters were. There might have been an event or two that they had to miss, but I don't think they had too many difficulties with it.

As far as recruitment, just be yourself :) I'm sure you'll find a sorority that you love!

  2. Thanks for following my blog! I'm a DG! Yours is adorable! I'm at a D3 school, but almost every athlete here is involved in the greek system. You will for sure be able to handle the time balance, you just might not be as involved as some of your other sisters who aren't playing a sport or whatever else. A sorority is what you want to make it though, so I say for sure go for it! About missing events, Theta had formal last night and they had a separate bus for the athletes who needed to leave later. I don't know how it works at the school you're attending but they will try and accommodate you!

I don't know when your rush takes place, but try and get to know some girls in various houses, it will help a ton! Also, if a lot of the other swimmers are in houses it will be totally understandable.

I don't know how much help I can be, but if you have any questions just let me know!

  3. Definitely go through recruitment! If you find the right girls they will love you for who you are, including your athleticism. I was a Tri Delta and involved in a lot of other things besides my chapter and was able to stay involved and even act as an officer. Being in a sorority changed my life for the better and it is one of the best decisions I ever made! Good luck and have fun!
